Chintamani, 2 July

An 18-year-old dance instructor and her younger sister were allegedly assaulted by a group of 10 to 12 people, including women, who also vandalised their house in Ashraya Extension on Tuesday night. Meghana, who works as a dance teacher at the New Government High School after completing her degree, lodged a complaint. She said that on 30 June, while leaving school with her sister, two youths named Karthik and Vinod stopped her and tried to accost her.

Meghana claimed she slapped them in self-defence and left. Later that night, the group reportedly stormed her house, abused her over the incident, and assaulted her. Meghana alleged Karthik stabbed her in the abdomen and neck with a knife, and Vinod kicked her after she fell. The woman dragged her by the hair, while her sister was restrained

The assailants also ransacked the house and damaged windows with stones. Neighbours took Meghana to SNR Hospital in Kolar, where she remains under treatment. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
